Jessie Shirley (1866-1918) with her husband Harry W. Smith opened their own show, The Jessie Shirley-Smith Comedy Company, in 1892. The show played opera houses and theatres throughout Iows, Illinois, and Missouri. Changing the show’s name to the Jessie Shirley Repertoire Company in 1898, they played the west coast from Vancouver, B.C. to San Diego, California.
